what about your own weapons? Gun politics in Switzerland - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

The Swiss really do love their automatic weapons. There are old stats on this link, I am sure I can dig for some more recent stuff. The #'s would probably trend higher.

The gun ownership rate in Switzerland is high because they are allowed to keep their rifles after their military service. Other than that, guns aren't really common.

In any case, the same rules apply to other handguns. You are not allowed to carry them publicly (without special permission), you are not allowed to store them with bullets in them and you have to keep the actual weapon and the breechblock separated.

As I've said before, it was really irresponsible of whoever owns that magazine to keep them at that location given the constant threats and firebombing in 2011. They should have either been at an undisclosed location or have much better security - inside and outside the building. Of course hindsight is always 20/20.

Such a shame

What? What?!? Making gun ownership impossible is the way to go. Otherwise, the first crazy guy has the possibility to take it and kill. Whether he kills one person or 100, it's one too much, full stop.

It's the job of the police and authorities to handle guns.

Besides, having guns never stopped people hijacking planes to hit buildings... so let's stop this fallacious argument. Guns for everybody are certainly not the right direction if we want to avoid issues since the problem is in their heads.

If the "good guys" were armed they would have been able to defend themselves.

It's not the Police's job to be proactive in defending you. They are a reactive unit. That's how it works and always how it will work.

Hostage-taker at Paris market linked to newspaper attack

If someone had a ccw in that market they would have at least stood a chance. Here in the US every single ccw carrier would have been armed after that first shootout. I feel sorry for the sheep that are unarmed there in that market.

Maybe, and maybe not. But maybe they could have gotten a couple of shots off rather than being held at gunpoint as the terrorists called each one by name, then separating them into 2 groups and shooting one at a time execution style.
