The lower castle in Manderscheid near where I used live was said to be haunted by the ghost of a young woman.
According to the local legend she was the daughter of the lord of the castle and was caught in the act with a lowly stall boy. Her father was so angry he had the stall boy killed on the spot and had her sealed in a tiny space in the castle wall with just a small slot where food and water could be passed through.
Maybe 20 years ago when doing some repairs they discovered a small hollow space in the wall with a small skeleton.
According to the locals the haunting stopped when she was given a proper burial.
The upper castle is one of my favorite places to visit. The castles were built by two brothers who did not get along.
The lower castle is more intact and has a museum. The upper is just a tower with stairs to the top and some walls, I used to like to ride my motorcycle through the twisty valley by Manderscheid and would stop and go up and hang out often.

People here often say that when driving at night alone, a girl wearing white dresses can appear in a curve at the shoulder by doing hitchhiking.
