My definition was more of a trivia question rather than a statement, but those are the countries which went trough the both world wars and the cold war remaining parliamentary democracies.
Well, let's say that your soviet geography book was rather a comic.

I mentioned that that definition had little to do with borders.
Because they lost, Germans lost, Italians lost, French (Vichy) lost, etc, etc, Spain won. Spain kicked Stalin, Americans did not invade, Hitler did not invade, in fact he was an ally.
If allies would have invaded, or Hitler,-to take Gibraltar, the allies would have set the same franchise that they set up in France, Italy and Germany.
We lost too, but Helsinki was among the three European capitals which never saw foreign troops marching in of all the countries who participated in the war. The other two were London and Moscow.
Ok, Moscow had the march of shame, but it was different.
Finland, as I recall, were allies of Germans, of course, I believe they sent troops to the Russian front, as Spain.
That was logical as Russia was the enemy, as the case of Spain. During the civil war, they were italian troops and german and italian aircraft, and most of the weapon of "reds" were russian...and there was the infamous "international brigade" and the NKV...and "chekisti"..
The soviets did not "donated" the weapons to the reds, as they stole all gold reserves that were among the largest in the world...incredible.

Finlandization was a shameful chapter in our history, but we remained a western democracy with a free market all together, something what you guys didn't. And technically we got a monopoly to trade with the USSR among western countries.
Finlandization was justified in the 50's and 60's when there was actually a real threat of a Soviet invasion, but it continued in the 70's and 80's, which was totally unnecessary. It ended when the Berlin wall fell, but completely we will be rid of it only when the last of these politicians born in the 40's and 50's die. Sadly.
Nowadays it's a huge insult to say that a politican is finlandized, even if it would be true.
