A Texas american would agree with you.... On Svalbard it is mandatory to carry weapons, and there are no taxes. Its no welfare system there either..

Julia you should really stop spewing bullsh!t! Solar irradiance doesn't affect the wealth of the citizens of a country in any way, it's just a coincidence that can be confirmed only if you look at Europe, where the North is indeed wealthier due to historical reasons than the South.

Hey, saxowuld; Nothing against Northern Europe, they may have more money, but at a certain stage money does not matter unless you are bipolar or have some type mental handicap. Why are there more suicides up north?, more loneliness up north?, more SAD and depress people up north?.
Down south people still dance, are outgoing, and sociable. unlike robot like, Spok type of personality trait which is the norm up north. Now this may sound that I may be generalizing but it is the general rule. I'ts easier to make friends down south, up north people seem paranoid. So mr saxonwold you seem very immature and you lack lots of common sense. You just have not been around long enough to really know what life is all about. You ain't seen nothing yet.
Having said that I love Germany in the summer, people seem to get out of their shells at that time, when winter comes so does depression.

Except for Bucharest, the rest of southern Romania is among the most backward zones. The differences are big, Southern Transylvania, which is centrally on Romania's map, being the most developed and rich.

While the assumption of the thread is silly, there is a factual difference between the tropical countries and the temperate-climate countries, the tropical being almost all underdeveloped. The causes are explained in this study:
Why Tropical Countries are Underdeveloped

In respect of climate, I would say that the median latitude is the best. Too cold or too hot is not good. In respect of society, as newer cultures, the northern countries ar less interesting.
