Weather Averages for Copenhagen, Denmark

As you can see, throughout the entire winter, the averages stay above the 0s Celcius.

But now look at somewhere like Boston:

or much worse, Chicago:
Weather Averages for Chicago, USA

All this time, I was thinking a Scandinavian city like Copenhagen would be much colder than most U.S. northern cities. Doesn't seem to be the case at all.

Next, look at the averages of Helsinki, Stockholm and Oslo and you'll get another surprise.

Brrr...

Scandinavia has for some reason the reputation of being cold (maybe because of the high latitude), but it's actually super mild for the latitude. Even for me most Upper Midwest and Canadian cities have absolutely frigid winters.

Those three I expected

I just looked at Munich, Germany. Surprising to me, Copenhagen and Munich are almost the same all winter long temperature-wise. In the winter it appears that Munich may even be a bit more colder, just a little bit. I would never have guessed.

Sofia looks just slightly marginally colder than Munich, ever so slightly, looking at the average winter months.

Yeah, it's never really cold or warm in Copenhagen.

Scandinavia has very mild winters for such high latitude because of the Gulf Stream. My city is colder in winter than Stockholm and Oslo despite being 10 degrees further south.

Expected them to be colder and most likely more similar to Toronto or Chicago, with less daylight.

When you first mentioned them, I directly compared them to Copenhagen, and they were a bit colder, which I expected. Re-examining and comparing them to Toronto/Chicago, they are warmer, which I wouldn't expect at all.

I don't find that unexpected at all. They're all pretty mild in the winter up there, which is pretty normal for most maritime cities, regardless of latitude.
