No. Neither is Switzerland, which is in Central Europe. Italy is both southern and central. In order for you get a better understanding of it, take a look at any map, it might help.
You have to ask this? Italy is one of the most southern countries in Europe. It is considered southern Europe everywhere in Europe. Switserland is considered middle Europe as far as geographic location is concerned, and economically they resemble nothern Europe.
Switzerland is Central Europe, not Northern Europe. How could you possibly think Italy was northern Europe, OP? Can't you see on the map that it extends farther south than any other European country, except Greece? (And bits of the former Yugoslavia, possibly.) This is a bizarre question, OP.
