The spaghetti between the index finger and the thumb with the open mouth pointed towards the sky is a classic. How disrespectful
I pictured it for a second and laughed my head off.
Now when I think about it I saw it, and yes it's kinda American "invention" - this particular way to eat spaghetti)))
Because Russians for example do it differently - they go for efficiency in this case)))

But I have to admit I didn't see both groups doing it while on trips abroad))))

I love you all!!! the Americans I've come across in London have been ultra polite and friendly, even when they stop me to ask for directions they are very chatty and genuinely pleased with my help and best of all in the pubs/clubs they go out to enjoy themselves with out the usual dramas that are associated with us Brits on a night out

In response to your comment about NYC....I wasn't going to say it before, but there seems to be a pattern that people from better, more cultured areas in the US are hardly at fault. Areas such as NYC, SF and most of CA, Chicago, DC etc. usually actually act like as they should when traveling. The issue usually does not lie with them. Now I can't wait to hear what you disagree with next. I'm on the edge of my seat
So I guess you are implying that New Yorkers are quiet and withdrawn compared to the rowdy people from Idaho?

You are obviously not European if you claim "we don't get that many American tourists over here in Europe". There's obviously a gigantic American tourist presence in Europe.

And the U.S. is the richest country on earth so claiming "most Americans can't afford travel here" is kind of absurd. The U.S. has basically the spending power of the entire EU. How can the richest country be too poor to travel?

I also don't know a single American who "only has 10 days of holidays per year", and that has nothing to do with anything. There are more non-working Americans (retired, etc.) then there are people in any European country, so there are more than enough people to visit even if not one American has even a single day of holiday. I have nearly five months of accrued vacation, BTW. I could take half the year off and tour the world if I wanted to, and I have an American employer.

Ok? my reply is still the same... all i am saying is many people don't understand over generalizations so that is why you will get plenty of negative responses.

I don't understand how someone could feel this way to be honest. i would never feel embarrassed because of people in my nationality, i am an individual... if i do something embarrassing i'll feel embarrassed... i'm not going to be embarrassed if some American tourist does something embarrassing.
