Hello,

I will be moving from the United States to Vienna, Austria for work in approximately 3 months. My gross salary will be approximately $37,000. I am a college grad and am only 22 years old. I'm curious to know the best areas to live in comfortably likened with my salary and age. Additionally, my work will be located in the complex surrounding the Austria Center, so I'm looking for somewhere within a 60min commute via public transit to this area. This is an unexpected move as I originally planned to go to Melbourne, AU, therefore, feel free to provide as much additional information about Vienna, Austria, or Europe as you wish!

Thank you!

Well, personally I like districts 6 (Mariahilf), 7 (Neubau) and 8 (Josefstadt) best. Try to stay away of the Gürtel, though, since that area is a bit shady. Somewhere around Neubaugasse is perfect. Those districts are pretty popular amongst students and young professionals. Lots of cool bars, restaurants and shops.

Other areas I can recommend: Wienzeile around Naschmarkt, the area around Karmelitermarkt or the areas around Brunnenmarkt and Yppenplatz (the latter two aren't fully gentrified yet; can be a bit rough around the edges).

I WOULDN'T recommend looking for a flat near the Austria Center/UNO City. That's pretty far from all the fun.

That's along metro line U1. I guess you'll be pretty hard pressed to find an apartment further away than an hour. Public transportation is top notch in this city, you'll be fine
