There is quite a bit of support among the general population and even some of the municipal and provincial leaders to bring in more migrants but the federal government is firm that it wants to screen these migrants thoroughly for potential terrorists or connection to terrorism groups before bringing them into the country...

Abolishing Schengen wouldn't change a thing. Enforcing Schengen (and Dublin for that matter) would be a game changer, though.

And in so doing has stranded thousands of migrants in Austria, Hungary and other 'transit' countries. Nice job by Germany inviting them all to come and then dumping them on her European partners! Stand by for some serious unrest.

Maybe the result of their coalition government comprising three parties in two blocks, conservatives and social democrats (I suppose Americans would call them socialists ) who have rather different views on things...
Add to that a whole lot of incompetence...

It's inseparable part of their national character.

We are not talking ABOUT Americans, but I mentioned them, yes, which is not forbidden I suppose.
