Now oughtn't they, each, be retired for good
And shouldn't they take the state-broadcasters &c with them
Just when will we all be free?

What the tourists etc don't sense is that the presence of a king or queen, together with their followers, is subtly oppressive to those that obey or pay for them
And the ingrained feeling that royalty will somehow look after them or represent their interests may even hold the masses back, for it lessens self-reliance, initiative &c

What? The monarchs in Europe are figureheads, they don't have any political or legislative power. For example the king of Sweden has as much juridicial power as I have. And President Obama holds 1000 times more personal power than all the monarchs in Europe combined.

Our last republic ended tragically. It would be good to have it back.

I wish Norway turned into a republic. A modern monarchy, especially the 110-year-old Norwegian one, makes no sense in an egalitarian democracy.

Frankly, keeping presidents like the ones in Austria or Germany is pretty pointless as well. They don't really serve a purpose. At least Norwegian tay-payers don't have to bear the cost of the election of one of those clowns every other year.

A president probably costs as much as a king.

The royal budget of the monarchy of Sweden was €6,800,000 in 2013. The budget of the presidental office of Finland was €8,900,000 the same year. So yes, you are right. The only exception is that the president of Finland has power.

Which also means the president provides an actual service to the country while the king doesn't. Like you said he as as much power as you, so why isn't your family paid 6.8 million for doing practically nothing?
