If I had to rank Austria, Czech Republic and Hungary I'd rank them like this.
Hungary is a rare mixture of Eastern Europe, Western Europe, Northern Europe and Southern Europe.
The people reflect that mixture too, as you often meet very tall blonde hair, blue eyed Hungarians who look like Northern Europeans, and then you meet this very southern European looking ones with dark hair, eyes and olive skin. They also have very slavic looking Magyars and some Magyars look a bit Balkan, many look Germanic.
Budapest is a really interesting city that smells of history, it is quite fascinating to see buildings still covered in bullet holes from WWII, the city is a weird combination of 19th century European extravagance, Eastern post communist nostalgia and very modern 21st century Europe.
Czech Republic lays between Hungary and Austria. Prague is a stunning city although a bit too tourist ridden for me. They tend to be less diverse in looks than Hungarians and more towards being just blonde, their cuisine, history and way of life resembles Hungarians a bit although the languages are quite different. But the feeling you get from being there is quite similar to that of Hungary. Interestingly enough I'd been to Slavic eastern countries where the feeling is quite different, so there is definitely a divide between Central European countries like Hungary and Czech republic and really Eastern ones like Ukraine or the Balkans.
Austria is the one I like the least. It is too orderly for me, although it has some of the most impressive landscapes in Europe, I cannot help but feel bored at that German uptightness and boring perfection and ultimate cleanliness. It almost feel sterile and I am not a fan of the ultra organized, perfect looks of German cities and Austria is sometimes a bit even more orderly and tidy. Vienna is a nice city with interesting things to see but compared with Budapest and Prague I really have a hard time adapting to the perfection of Vienna. It's almost like a movie set. I also don't find all that perfect architecture filled with statues, and golden motives all perfectly polished alluring, it's a bit tacky for me! (I get the wedding cake effect). I must admit I like the roughness and extravagant chaos of Budapest better.
