What is the best way to find a short term rental in Berlin? Is there one?

Specifically the case when people go away on vacation and want to rent out their apartment?

The law seems broad enough to affect every site, like Wimdu, but also even just individuals on vacation casually renting their place without a website intermediary.

Am I breaking the law by renting my friends apartment for the summer???

Will Wimdu prevail in their lawsuit?

Finally, is there really a housing shortage in Berlin?

Please tell me....its banned after May 1, what about people who have reservations and have paid for places through airbnb?? My son already has lodging booked thru them around June 13 & 14. Do they honor that, is it just no more bookings after May 1. I told him to contact Airbnb immediately. He is just graduating college in USA and flying to Europe June 12th.....Germany first.

This is such a shame.....housing crunch in Berlin....refugees???

thanks for any info.

Christine

i'm reading more about it but my german could be better.

As far as I can tell, the law only prohibits renting out the apartment on a short term basis, for more than six months per year. There are some other conditions too, like the owner has to live in Berlin. This is to curb people from leasing apartments with the sole intention of turning them into unlicensed hotels.

This means I am in the clear but I don't know about your son's rental.
