A friend of mine had his camera stolen in Paris. I was wondering what the typical "market" is for these goods? They are obviously stolen to be sold - do they typically stay local or do they go somewhere else?
For example here in the US, I'd probably scour craigslist or pawn shops in the city where the theft occurred. What would be the equivalent in Paris?
Obviously what's on the memory card is more important than the camera but I figured I'd ask in case someone else had a similar situation.
Its very difficult to tell, those thieves are globalized nowadays. There are camps in Romania where gypsy childrens are trained to steal, huge gangs are operating throughout whole Europe and competing with gangs from northern Africa. Usually, stolen items are stored in a kind of central location for a certain time and then redistributed to other countries. My GF had the same problem of her notebook and external HD been stolen, but its almost impossible to find out where it ends up. They are just too professional and well organized.
