About six months ago the US Federal Gummint announced that they were reverting to public management of prisons. When existing contracts expire they will not be renewed. It's expected that many, though not all, states will follow suit.
There are about 10 times as many prisoners in state prisons compared to federal.

This is because the optics are bad and not because of inefficiency. Private prisons lobby for longer prison terms in order to boost profits. The obvious conflict of interest has caused public outcry against the privatization of prisons.

Many posters on C-D often refer to the race card.

Obviously not.

Depends on the country. Finland's education is public and often considered #1 in the world. A well-functionig private transit system again is essentialy to QOL in cities.

Well, we are talking about prisons, a very sensitive area of society. I'll rather have quality, even if it costs a bit more.

Once you factor benefits such as vacation, union, ... in the cost triples not the quality. Personally - the idea behind Escape from New York has some merit.

That doesn't make a difference here, as vacations are mandatory and the workers heavily unionised.

Every day and every month are White history month. I can't believe you could think otherwise. Of course the ideal solution would be to incorporate more "Black History Month" and "Native American History Month" topics and activities into the regular curriculum. This may have happened to a small degree in the last 20 years, perhaps, but standard public school textbooks are very slow to change. So ethnic minority communities are stuck with this type of tokenism, where they get a dedicated month, and that's it. Everyone acknowledges that it is less than ideal.

Seriously, you think that the dominant ethnicity needs a special month or a special professional association? They dominate everything already, and always have. That's the reason disadvantaged groups band together: to support each other, and have a little leverage in advocating for their needs. It has nothing to do with political correctness. It's about survival, and creating the conditions in which those groups would have a shot at thriving.

People banding together to identify obstacles and to seek solutions is what working to get ahead looks like.

It does. Who pays PTO, pension, insurances, look at some relo packages!, over time, .... The private sector runs puppy mills at the lower levels.

Please tell us why the black family unit went from being the most intact before the Great Society to a 70% bastardy rate today. Between the civil rights movement of the 1950's and Johnson assuming the Presidency, black income was rising like an erupting volcano and then stalled. Look at what welfare has done to people. It's truly tragic and people want to make the system bigger. Why?
