In the latest NATO members meeting this week in Bucharest, Romania, Albania and Croatia were invited in as members.
FYROM (Former Yugoslavic Republic of Macedonia) was not allowed in due to a veto by neighboring Greece.
Skopia claims that this will not go unanswered and will seek "revenge"

The modern day Slavs of the region bare no relation to the Macedonians of antiquity who's royal family came from Argos in southern Greece.

The ancients spoke Koine, a Greek dialect, and competed in the Olympic games, a tribute only given to Hellenics.

Alexander crossed over into Asia to conquer Persia as a retaliation to savageries inflicted on Greek cities along what is now the Turkish coast of the Aegean Sea in 499 BC.

His conquests spread Greek culture(Not Slavic culture) throughout Asia and Egypt and a period known as the Hellenistic Period(as distict from Hellenic) lasted from his death in 323 BC until the death of the last Greek Pharaoh of Egypt - Cleopatra in 30BC.

It is a complicated issue...
Has to do with mythological conception of ethnicity from both sides...

Greeks started it first, claiming that they are direct, full blooded descendants of ancient Greeks...
That's why they systematically use the term "Hellas " ( =ancient Greece ) instead of Greece ( meaning modern Greece) ...

Then the Macedonians in a foolish reactionist way, jumped on the train of mythological nationalism & started claiming that they are direct, full blooded descendants of ancient Macedonians..

Both nations are wrong... They are new nations, formed during the Byzantine & Ottoman Empire, they are not succesors of ancient nations...

They are 1000 years old,not...2500 years old...

Treaty of Bucharest 1913 took away land from Macedonia that had a province called Aegean. It went to Greece via the treaty. Really Greece does not hold the true name of it.

There are many references and artifacts that indicate that Macedonians wrote in Greek, believed in the Gods and where an individual city state just as Sparta, Thebes and Athens were.

Today, Macedonia is a region of the modern state of Greece.
Geographically it spreads into some parts of ex-Yugoslavia and a bit of western Bulgaria.
People that had settled these northern parts of this geographic area during the Byzantine and Ottoman times where of slavic and albanian descent.
Today, these people want to be called "Macedonians" and claim the ancestry and the history of the old glory of Greece.
A modern nation of FYROM is in conflict with Greece in the use of the name of Macedonia. Greeks fear expansionism claims by FYROM (former Yugoslavic Repulbic of Macedonia) and refuse to call this newly founded tiny nation "Macedonia". We know that the Balkans are very volatile up to this date. Kosovo is a good example of this. Albanians claim 3/4 of FYROM as their own so it can be part of greater Albania.
This is another conflict that if not resolved can threaten the NATO alliance and the EU itself..............

bit more of this here:
YouTube - Macedonia is Greece

Macedonia was part of Bulgaria before the Noy contract, and nowdays its republic, open the google maps and study it,and you have to take some geografic lessons,IM BULGARIAN.

I'd say it's the other way around since the Slavic alphabet was created in the city Ohrid which is in Macedonia.
Have you read any history book?

Macedonia is a name chosen by a modern country, and the Greeks get all bent out of shape for calling it that, and force the whole world to call it "The Former Yugoslav Republic of Macedonia".

It's as stupid as Iowa County, Wisconsin, putting up signs saying "We are the real Iowa", and forcing the state of Iowa to call itself "The Former Louisiana Territorial State of Iowa", and going off in a childish snit if they don't. Iowa County, Wisconsin, which then included the site of Madison, was named and organized before there were any European settlements in the former Louisiana territory of Iowa.
