I realize this is pretty random, but just throwing it out there. You never know who has experience with this.

Here's the background to my question:

I will be finishing my masters in May in interior design at one of the U.S.'s top schools. It's in New York. I'm interested in looking for a job at a design firm in Europe. I find my own design sensibilities mesh with Europeans' better (of course a generalization. Great stuff is everywhere.) Anyhow, I do think there is a difference in philosophy and thinking. In my opinion, Europeans aren't afraid of modern and more open to experimentation than here in the States (again a generalization). That really interests me.

Further, I'd like to make the distinction between interior decorating and interior design. Interior design concerns itself with the entirety of the interior (and often exterior) from the interior architecture to finishes and materials. It's the interface between the building and the people who use it. The reason I draw that distinction is to help focus job prospects.

I'm curious how European design firms would view a degree from the U.S?

Also, I should mention that although I am American, I have dual citizenship with Germany. My German is good, but not at all native speaker level. I used to be pretty fluent though.

I think top cities could be Amsterdam, Berlin, Milan.

To give you an idea, some firms/designers I like are:

i29
India Mahdavi
Patricia Urqioula
Christian Champsaur
J Mayer H

As I said random post!
