One of the best descriptions of the Romanian languages I've heard goes something like the following:
"Spanish, Italian, French, Portuguese and Romanian are all Romance languages (descended from Latin).
Spanish, Italian, French, and Portuguese are like siblings who grew up together.
Romanian is like the sibling who was separated from the family at 3 years old, grew up somewhere else, then reunited at 21."
I have a decent familiarity with Spanish, and I find I can use my knowledge of Spanish to read French, Portuguese and Italian with a fair degree of success. I can only pick out a few words in a passage written in Romanian. The grammar is very different, the vocabulary is surprisingly different, and there are many words and features adopted from Slavic languages.
Any linguists out there know anything about this Romance Language?
Judging by the messages you left here, it looks VERY close to Italian.
