I went to school and uni with millionaires' children and also with working class ones. So did my children. There are a few exclusive schools but it's not the same as in the US or the UK. Basically all schools are good schools and receive the same funding within a state. Universities are 99 state owned and free. The few (newish) private universities do not really cater for rich students only and are quite limited in the subjects offered such as business. One of my children will start medicine this autumn (directly after school), and no private uni offers courses in medicine.

The bigger segregation here in Germany are the schools after primary school when the pupils who are deemed more intelligent go to schools which eventually lead to a qualification to go to university whereas the others who tend to be more of the lower classes go to different schools and leave school earlier, usually to start a 3 year apprenticeship.

Private schools, as in the US....or private schools that are partly funded. Private universities, OPUS, abroad.

Eton, under David Cameron we had a situation where half of the country's most senior politicians had been in the same class in school!

A few billionaires might send their kids to expensive boarding schools abroad, but I think most rich kids just attend public schools.

The best universities are all public and more or less free of charge. Acceptance is based on grades only. That is great and explains the great social mobility and equality in our society.

The top private schools in the UK generally belong to the Headmasters' and Headmistresses' Conference known as the HMC, there is a list on their website below and on their wikipedia page.

In terms of top UK Universities they generally belong to the Russell Group.
