There are also 100000s of non-religious, secular, Westernized Muslims who identify as Muslims nonetheless.
They fight a two-pronged battle while living their day-to-day lives 1) Islamophobia and the standard stereotypes of Muslims in the Western world 2) the backward/barbaric traditions in the societies of the countries that they are originally from.
I'm one of them. and I can tell you, a week out and my heart still bleeds for Barcelona. I have yet to visit a more fascinating city with such warm, friendly people, and I wish them the very best and that they never have to face the ugly monster of terrorism again.
So, again...please... have some mercy and dont jump to conclusions on all Muslims.
I and many others are with you. I have a number of Muslim friends here who feel the same way. I know it's not easy.
Muslims who immigrate to North America tend to be better educated and less prone to falling into dire economic circumstances, and thus generate bad behaviour, when they settle in Canada and the US.
Nonetheless, they bring their very dubious views on gender and gender roles with them, and especially in multicultural societies are happy to maintain their deep-seated and scripturally mandated discrimination against women, by Western standards; a condition the PM has endorsed in the interest of maintaining Canada as a multicultural society.
The condition being that these prerogatives be exercised within existing Canadian laws. Though there appears to be quite a bit of wiggle room within that window. The elastic can be and is being stretched.

I didn't mean to imply that there are not educated or Westernized Muslims in Europe, only that the European Muslim population is very diverse in terms of country of origin, level of religiosity, and educational/social background, compared to the American Muslim population.
My heart still breaks for what happened. I actually had a nightmare about it like if I was there and saw everything first hand. Then I saw other attacks happening in my dream and dead people everywhere. I'm just sick of these attacks happening on innocent people who are just minding their own business, trying to go about their day and then some messed up idiots f*** up people's lives.
Without naming the country she is from (at the risk of outing her against her will - one never knows), both these countries are hardly bright spots at the moment.
Also, Morocco which was traditionally one of the more "smiling'' Muslim countries in the region, has been the country of origin for a large number of terrorists who have perpetrated attacks in Europe in recent years, months and weeks.
I'd say if there is a more "relaxed" Muslim country in that part of the world at the moment, it's probably Jordan.
Those Moroccans were from third countries, alienated abroad.
I'm not implying that, I will directly say, yes some religions are far worse then others. Just like some political ideologies are far worse then others. If you think otherwise you are engaging in active ignorance.
Then you should go back to school.
