People in favor of independence in Catalonia are 40 percent or even less.

The modern Spain has nothing to do with Roman Hispania. Roman Hispania was the entire Iberian peninsula. Quite clearly Portugal is not apart of Spain. Ceuta and Melilla are holdovers from when Spain colonized Northern Morocco. Britain did wanted to check French colonialism in Africa, but was over extended. So they got Spain to colonize Northern Morocco, Western Sahara, and Ecquatorial Guinea. They had Portugal colonize Angola, Mozambique, and Guinea Bissau.

Ceuta and Melilla were always part of Spain and Hispania,

The percentage might be much higher if people did not fear armed conflicts. 40% (which is your figure) is just 10% away from the majority.

Regardless of that, it is obvious that Europe should not have colonies on other continents anymore. The colonial times are over...

Not sure what all this will mean for Spanish politics...
I can. The center right sought to use tourism and foreign investment to recover from the crisis. That type of economic development is over. Madrid just passed legislation essentially making Airbnb and other home sharing services illegal. Other Spanish cities are following suit. Barcelona also outlawed ride sharing apps like Uber.

The center right got cut so severely because the nation rejected their idea of economic development. I’d expect the golden visa program to eventually be ended as well.

The socialists would rather build up Spanish industries and corporations naturally.

Funny, I live next door in Portugal, but I know little about what is going on in Spain. Somehow Spain is not present in the media here. But from what you write, they suffer from the same problem, namely trying to make easy money with tourism, at the expense of a solid future and the well-being of local residents. The Mediterranean curse...

Easy money from tourism has been an utter disaster. Spain and Portugal took the tourism route to the extreme post financial crisis.

Now there’s a huge backlash against this in both countries, with legislation pending. Industries within the Iberian peninsula have to be built up naturally.

How about those 3rd world countries take care of their own, most of them have plenty of natural resources, unfortunately their "leaders" steal all of the foreign aid money collected.
