For Parisians and those who have been to Paris, how do you like the eighteenth arrondissement?

I think it is an interesting neighborhood-it has Sacre Coeur, the Moulin Rouge, rolling hills and even an African market-Goutte D’Or.

If I had known this neighborhood was so cool, I would have skipped Le Marais (which was featured so much in tour books on Paris, I don’t know why I don’t think it was such an interesting neighborhood, maybe it was because of the Place des Voyages) but anyway it doesn’t change the fact I regret not going there.

But for those who have been there, what do you think of the 18th Arrondissement?

Prepare for 'migrants, thieves' and dirty streets in your answers.
I didn't visit it, ofc Montmartre (early during the week, else it's crowed because hey... Tourists),
Never went to the 'marché aux puces', apparently the one of Saint-ouen is the best, not selling ridiculous eiffel towers everywhere..
You indeed have the 'red district',

You can have a start here

I left Paris... But it still has a place in my heart, even if I don't 'like' big cities

Nice area and you can either walk up or get the train up to Sacré-Cœur, which has beautiful views.

Paris is a nice city, and there has been a lot of nonsense written on some of the threads on this forum in recent months.

As for France it is a beautiful country, and I enjoy visiting it.

France might have some problems with Macron but they will get through them, just as the UK will eventually get passed Brexit.

I liked it because parts of it still kind of have a village feel; other places in Paris have that feel but they are not that popular with tourists either.

Sacré-Coeur has nice views since most of Paris is flat. Moulin Rouge is an uninteresting tourist trap to me. Didn’t make the more ethnic parts.

But for what it’s worth I loved Le Marais, not just because of Place des Vosges which is architecturally nice but that’s it. Loved the vibe and combination of historical museums, cool shops, art galleries, Jewish quarter..

Loved the village feel....

visited a flea market and picked up interesting items...one a handmade cork canteen for $1. Stayed for hours, wishing I had a trunk for the odd pieces for sale.

Loved the food there too....not touristy.

Is the Jewish quarter still in tact?

I saw photos of Rue de Rosier on Google Street View, which is where the Jewish Quarter is centered, and didn’t see many Jewish businesses left.

I have no idea what it used to look like but no, it’s likely just a shadow of what it used to be. Still made for an interesting spot imo.

Don't regret, OP - go there next time.
Now, after you visited all the "touristy" places, you can focus on those really worth seeing.
Make a list (not from tour books) and get ready.
