Most of the damage, except the wooden roof, affected mostly the restoration works by Violet le Duc after the French revolution. I don't know who owns the cathedral as France is a republic with separation of powers.

Notre dame belongs to the French state as most of the historical monument.
Pivate companies but accredited by the state to work on historical monuments. These companies are specialized in this type of maintenance. (technical and "savoir faire" "know how"). they work in collaboration with historians and specialists of the French state.
The workmen often come from a "builder guild/corporation" of "the companions of duty" "les compagnons du devoir". They are trained very young and travel all over France to learn and become specialist in their craft as mason, carpenter etc ...
BSPP is prefectly fitted to fight fire on high-rises, except that this is not conventional high-rise.
It's a old building with a wooden roof, older than anything built existing in the United States.
There were no problem of water supply, I don't get this point ?
There are fire station even closer to Notre Dame than this one.
There were no issue about communication, the area around the Cathedral were quickly evacued.
No casuality of injury.
Artifacts inside the Cathedral have been moved out.
The problem is that you comment something without having a full picture of the course of events.
And yet you were quite blind as you didn't see that the firefighters responded almost immediately.
This tweet from Hidalgo (Mayor of Paris) posted after 7pm show Firefighter on site. No firefighted showed for three hours, you said. :| https://twitter.com/Anne_Hidalgo/sta...40421923827712
Just in case others want to know what the Mayor said:
"A terrible fire is under way at Notre-Dame de Paris cathedral. The @PompiersParis are trying to control the flames. We are mobilized on the spot in close connection with the @dioceseParis. I invite everyone to respect the perimeter of safety."

If it is definitively proven that a worker or two accidentally caused the fire, let's forgive whole-heartedly, roll up sleeves, and get to work.

No amount of money in insurance payouts will bring back a lost stained glass window or other masterpiece.
I understand, but maybe some of these young trained specialists can replicate some or all of these unique works of art.
Anyway, guys, please let us know how simple observers can make a contribution to rebuilding. Is there a reputable website? One that can accept credit card or similar electronic payment?
But I advise you to wait and see how it will evolve, French companies's donations already represent 500 million euros, french state 50 million euros and the French wood supply will provide free trees needed for the reconstruction.
Reconstruction shouldn't be a problem, Notre Dame was fully digitized and art workers know how to reproduce all the pieces of construction including sculptures, stained glass ect.

750 millions are already there, that will help a lot. Still it ll take 10-15 years to have it back.
The beffroi and the wooden framework where extremely precious, now it's dead...
But rosettes are still there, organ, relics, paints, altar... Our cathedral isn't totally dead, firefighters where exceptional, no matter what forumers behind their screen say.

Thanks for the advice. It went ahead and did it anyway; just a token, but heart-felt. The site works, takes US-based credit cards or from any other country.
