Let's see some suburbs. That's where the bad areas are. I've been there, though, but not to all of them. Franconville is nice, though.

True, most suburbs (not Neuilly or St Cloud of course) are worse, but most US tourists don't up there (only if they got lost)...

If you fly in, then yes, you do see some of them. Going from the airport to Paris. Luckily, the ghettos are in the suburbs and not in the city itself. I think that's rare. It's opposite for pretty much any city here. The suburbs are nicer than the city itself. Might have something to do with the lack of public transportation.

Inner Paris on the North is not cleaner than the suburbs. And the way from CDG to Paris is AWFUL.

OK, in the centre Paris is quite clean, but in general it's strange, uncomfortable city overcrowded with tourists and the people from the suburbs. Such an old city as Paris wasn't ready for such an expansion, it's obvious. The undergound is really bad. So, clean or dirty it's uncomfortable, in my opinion. To visit it - it's OK, but I do not envy its citizens, god save me from living in such a city....

Paris is clean. Old-looking obviously, but clean.

Paris is in some parts a garbage dump, and in no sense of the word "clean".
I'm a Parisian and has been living here all my life (I was born 1955), so I believe my opinion has more weight than those of people who, for the most part, only lived here for a limited time.
But it's not a moral judgment on Paris : clean might not always equate better, it can have the meaning of "sanitized", wich is a negative too. Paris is NOT clean, it doesn't mean that it is not somehow livable!

I just get back from Paris last week, I'm sorry I have to say this.. but Paris is not as I expected, It's not clean, I found so many doggy poop on the street, so many graffiti on the wall just like Rome. I also saw the graffiti on one of the monument on 8th arrondissement Paris. Metros were just the same, dirty and smell... different with London very clean and comfort, even not in the centre of London.

I thought Paris was clean enough every time I've visited. In my experience, cities that are perfectly clean are also perfectly boring.
