I am a retired health care administrator and want to relocate to Provence in The South of France. Am curious about how to go about getting started. Have been online endlessly looking at small apartments and villas, near Lauris and surrounding areas. Does anyone have any suggestions for me? I would plan to stay for three months at a time and then return to Pennsylvania (USA). Thanks.

If your intention is to live three months in France, then three months in the US, then you should have no problem. If you live in France for three months, you would have to stay out of the EU for three months, no matter where you went because the rules only allow you to stay for 90 days in a 180 day period. It appears that you are aware of this. BTW, that is on a tourist visa. If you want a more permanent status, you would have to prove your income, or be emlployed.
The south of France is a great place, I was there last year in 'X', Arles, Cassis, Avignon, etc. Beautiful.

You'll have no problem purchasing property and/or staying in France for 90 days within a 180 day period, (meaning three months in France, and three months anywhere outside the Schengen Territories), for a total of 6 months within one year. Under these circumstances you will not need a long-stay visa. For periods exceeding 3 months in one visit, you will need to apply for a long-stay tourist visa and will not have the right to work. Search Google for the French Consulate nearest you for complete information. Thank you for the useful links and information about France. Being retired, I would need some sort of proof of income to stay longer than three months. Am very interested in multiple ownership on www.frenchpropertyshares.com. Gave me much to consider. btw, you are right...no one knows what can happen anywhere...just want to be far away from the hustle and bustle of US East Coast living.
