That's what I experienced when I visited my aunt in the early 90s.

This ... I myself will emigrate to Spain as soon as I complete my studies. The American Culture no longer provides the excitement I seek. I think if you do the same OP, you will not look back as you will probably be having Churros and Chocolate after a great night at the bars.

Till 2 AM? You were weak, then. People usually party until 6-7 am or later. What is true is that "terrazas" are crowded during well into the wee wee hours in summer

LOL, this is true. However, I was only 13 at the time so no alcohol and my spanish was limited ... I've since learned much more and can speak almost fluently. If I go again I may just stay up very late, though now I have been ground into the typical USA lifestyle of going to bed at 9 PM and waking up at 5 to get into work at 7

Before the ministers of Franco developed tourism (and industry) in Spain in the 60's, Spain was indeed a poor country. I wonder how long till they get back to that situation with such a decadent and unproductive lifestyle (they make other people work for them as slaves however, like the Moroccans in El Mar de Plastico (greenhouses) near Almeria...........

well, spain alone cant be compared to the US as spain is just one state where as the US is a collection of 50 states.

that said, spain is a member of the EU which makes it quite obvious which place would be the best to live.

There are a variety of cultural areas within Spain, and some of these areas enjoy considerable autonomy under a devolved system of government, e.g. Catalunya, Galicia, etc.
