Largest Bridge in the World: Italian Mainland to Sicily (people, Sicilian, work)

I have been hearing about this project for YEARS but is it ever going to really happen?? I heard that in 2006 the project was said to be closed because of budget problems, but just last year it was said to be re-opened and construction has started.

Does anyone know anything about this project? When it will be completed? Or if it is actually going to happen?

I live in Italy but I don't know if this bridge will be built or when...sorry.

i hope it will never happen, its a big white elefant, a way for the italian goverment to make us believe that they care for Sicilians and Calabrese, in reality and this is my personal view what will happen that
1 it will take huge sums of money
2 it will be a way to make large industries work, in the south we dont have them so it will be from the north
3 ITS A SISMIC AREA. MOUNT ETNA AND EARTHQUAKES !!
4 PEOPLE BELIEVE IT WILL BE FREE CROSSING
5 WHO DO THE COMPANIES THAT WILL CARRY OUT THE WORK BELONG TO???

IF THEY CARE SO MUCH LET THEM GIVE US THE MONEY AND WE CAN PARTY , YOU CAN ALL BE INVITED !!!
