Denmark has the most immigration-unfriendly laws in Europe.

I got here before all that. But danish culture is so different than in the US. Still, I didn't have that big a problem learning the language and making friends. I had a job contract when i arrived, which is always the key to adjustment.

I've read most of the posts here, but not all 14 pages, so I'm hoping this hasn't been already said.

If you're talking about a young person planning on spending the rest of one's life in a European country, I suspect it may not matter which one.

The EU is going to expand and expand and it's a fact that borders and sovereign nationalities will continue melting away. And English will continue becoming the dominant language (some language must fill that role and English has already become the "default", has it not?). That doesn't mean it's the way I'd want it, but if you take a long, cold, hard look at things, that's definitely where it's going. EU first, then it appears one world gov't eventually in the distant future.

I know how reassuring and cheery a notion that is for many of us, but that's about it.

So if you're picking countries, just go on and live wherever you like in which you can still get in legally. Standard of living, cost of living, tax burden, financial and business opportunities, knowing the language, the weather, where your family came from, where you can get a job, and who you feel comfortable with would be the main things.

Which one would I pick? Well, as an American, Europe wouldn't really work. That's because I want as little socialism as possible. The American South is actually where I'm most happy. But, if forced to move abroad probably South America first, particularly Uruguay. If Europe, Scotland first. If a non-English speaking country, Germany without question. Hamburg probably. And I've also heard good things about living in Portugal, although I'd be reluctant to start from scratch with a new language.

There is too much people overly idealizing UK/England. I used to in the past, but eventually changed my opinions for UK and discovered the reality.

There is plenty of countries in modern times that are “free” and “tolerant,” and certain European countries that are better than UK.

The people scene in UK became very mixed, I met plenty of friendly, exciting, good people from UK, but at the same time an even amount of other people from there that was actually the opposite of those qualities. I also find some British people unpredictable in character and personality for modern times. The “95% of folks being cool with everyone” in UK appears to be an objectively false statement.

France, Netherlands, Switzerland, Austria, Italy, Spain, Belgium, Germany, Denmark, Sweden, Norway, and Czech Republic are better European countries than UK/England for plenty of reasons.

Maybe this was true 100 to 400 years ago during 1613 to 1913, but definitely very false in 2013, and for the past decade. Most people in France are not arrogant anymore.

The French people actually became too modest and humble. I hope they all at least truly appreciate, respect, and enjoy their country.

I noticed the Americans that love France, impressed and idealistic with this country, became more arrogant for France than the actual French people.

France is one of the best countries for plenty of reasons, especially for Scenery, Architecture, Nature scenery, Quality of Life, Entertainment, Cosmopolitan Diversity, Variety, People Scene, Lifestyle, and More.

Lol. Maybe if you have a lot of money and looking for somewhere to retire. If you're a young person looking for work, not so much
