Dual citizenship (country, work, France, Spain)

I am an American and i am currently in Spain where my uncle lives I also have a uncle in France. This being said is it possible for me to gain residency in either one of these countries and not denounce my American residency? basically having dual residency. I know there are similar threads to this but not about this specific question being that i have family in these two countries.

Are you confusing residency and citizenship?

You can reside abroad and have foreign work permit[s] and still be an American citizen. Forever.

Permanent residency in a foreign country can be part of the process leading to citizenship. Or not. It is also possible to be a dual passport holder and have dual citizenship.

As an American citizen there is no requirement that if you live somewhere else you need to renounce American citizenship.
