What motivates and encourages you to workout? For me it's a number of things. I'll list them in no particular order:

1. It's simply one of my favorite hobbies

2. Its something that makes me feel empowered and one of the biggest stress relievers

3. Because when I was growing up, everyone always told me I wouldn't be big and strong and told me I can never do it (as corny as that sounds)

4. It's a confidence booster of course

5. I hate to admit it but I also do it for the women. It's always an awesome feeling when women admire my body, compliment me and it's definitely even more awesome when I hear that were talking to their friends and telling them they think I am sexy. I never let it get to my head but it definitely motivates me to stay in good shape. It's a great feeling when I go out to a party or club and people notice my body.

6. For my loved ones. I feel that I have to be the protector of my family and being in optimum physical and mental shape is vital to that in my opinion. So I train hard all the time I hit the gym.

Okay, so what are your reasons?

First and foremost, for my health.

Second, for my own vanity. I feel great when I know I can fit into my jeans. Also, I like to wear form-fitting clothing, and I like to wear shirts that show my stomach (and my belly jewelry), so that also keeps me motivated to keep exercising.

I think for most of us you can find the answers in the 50 plus pages here - What motivates you to exercise?

For me, in no particular order:

As a parent, I want to make sure I am healthy/around as long as possible for my children.
It helps create and reinforce IMPORTANT habits with my children - keeping fit/healthy/active.
I enjoy it/its a hobby.
I like to keep the body as sharp and working as well as my MIND.
Want to be in tip top shape for my martial arts.
I enjoy leading an active life, exercising and keeping fit helps keep this lifestyle.
Sex is better. Much MUCH BETTER.
I like having small waist and flat abs. Gives me a feeling being all powerful, almost omnipotent.
My wife loves my body. Sometimes you have to do things for your spouse to make/keep them happy.

Good reasons.

I'm a parent as well, and I like setting a good example for my son. And I do agree about exercise making sex much better

Well prior to having my child I was very physically fit but really only played sports and didn't enjoy the other stuff.

Now as an adult my reasons are:

1. I started by wanting to lose weight.
2. I love the way it makes me feel.
3. I want to be physically fit, strong, and healthy. As I have worked my way up with Yoga and strength training I feel kind of sad. Had I been this physically fit as a teen I could have maybe protected myself, saved myself.
4. As a parent, I believe the best way to parent is to lead by example. I want my daughter to grow up as a child being physically fit. I want to the kind of woman I would love for my daughter to be.
5. I want to be healthy and sound in both body and mind.
6. I feel like in my field of work I should live the lifestyle I try to get my clients to partake in.

#1 For my health and to look good for my wife (she is in excellent shape).

#2 Because my job demands it. I have to be better than the other guy.

My reasons:

1. For my health
2. For the way it makes me look and feel
3. For the satisfaction knowing that I can run circles around women half my age
4. To set an example for other middle-aged women
5. I love to eat - if I run, I can pretty much eat what I want
