PS One time I saw one of them wearing flip flops - on the treadmill.
I tend to avoid gyms with a high concentration of housewives for this very reason. Nothing tends to spike my blood pressure more than having to wade through them to get to the various exercise stations.

Some people still wear Flashdance sweatshirts, bicycle shorts, leg warmers, Olivia Newton John headbands. I mean c'mon already?
Sounds like you work out at Curves.

#1. If a woman is wearing skin tight pants that leave little to the imagination. I'm sorry. Guys are going to look.

#2. It's a Gym and not a Cell Block. I get tired of the Steriod losers acting as if they are going to break out of prison tonight.

#3. Cell Phones on the Gym Floor. Really? You can't wait the 30min it takes you to walk on incline 0 at 2mph. To have a random conversation with somebody.

#4. Jeans and boots guy.

#5. 400lbs girl on the stair master. Thank you for recognizing that you have to workout. Journey of a 1000 miles begins with one step. But you were 250,300, and 350. What the hell took you so long.

#6. Sexy Zumba Stripper Butt Gyration Snob Women. You have a Sexy Zumba Stripper Butt Gyration Class. Don't act shocked if I want to hang out in the back row.

i hate pet peeves so i can't even read this thread! why people think their 'pet peeves' make them more funny/entertaining/interesting, gee can we all cultivate yet another idiosyncrasy huh, why is there is a 'pet 'peeve' thread on most every message board i've ever been to, why people let the most trivial of things annoy them so easily just annoys me to no end!!! like get over yerselves people!

(hey is cool breeze, i'm just messin' with ya)

but for real, what a weird phenom the 'pet peeve' thing is, when you stop to think about it. maybe it's just me, as with most 'things', usually it's just me, lol.

No female should be uncomfortable around men in the free weight section. I think the stares come from them making sure she doesn't hurt herself so they're just keeping an eye out. In the grand scheme, most men don't mind/nor care if a woman comes into the free weight area

I'm just lifting like 10 lb weights though so I don't think they have a reason to worry.
I'm just plain uncomfortable being the only gal there. I'm shy in nature.

Once you do it a few times you'll get used to it, the gym regulars will get used to it. I'm a long distance runner and start my bicep workouts on the machines, then the curl bar, so by the time I walk my 140 lbs over to the dumbbells I'm lifting fairly small weights. I usually start at 25lbs and work down to 10 lbs. So I'm a guy lifting 10 lbs. weights in the free weights area. Yeah, it's weird when some guy is slinging up 50 and 60 lbs and I got 10, but it would look just as funny if he was running on the treadmill next to me afterwards. If I don't care, then so shouldn't you.

I wish I had a bit more confidence and I have tried a few times but still not quite comfortable. Thanks for sharing your workout with me; kudos!

The every year, Jan-march, I'm going to get into shape this year crowd. They take up the whole gym and then disappear in March, never to be seen from again.
