Optimal Waist Size for women?
Inspired by the 10 plus pages of the "Optimal waist size for guys" thread, thought it only fair that we have one for women.
Is there an "optimal" waist size for women?
Mrs. Lao is Im guessing about 22-23 inches. She's 34-22(?)-35 (a bubbly 35) and about 122 pounds at 5' 2". I think this is pretty standard/average for a woman who is fairly active.

At that weight and height, she would probably have some majorly hefty thighs, and be more than merely "fairly" active and have lots of dense muscletone, in order to have those measurements in bust/waist/hips.
I'm 5'2.5" and small-boned, and once, I weighed 120 pounds (before I decided I hated being thin; it looked -horrible- on me).
My measurements at the time were around 34 - but with a D cup...26 waist, and 36 hips. If I put my feet together and stood erect, you could see a sliver of space between my thighs, which in my personal opinion is aesthetically optimal (not everyone would agree and that's okay), and at the time, I had no visible cellulite.
Your wife's waist probably isn't really a 22, more like a 24-26 - which is still very sexy and feminine and she probably looks amazing in a bikini
I'm working my way back to 135, where I feel most comfortable.

Yeah, if anything, she's probably closer to 36 than 35 on the butt. She thinks her butt is too big but is quick to admit that all her life guys have always complimented on her butt. She also thinks that it gives the illusion of her waist being smaller than it is.
If she's in a bikini, I can put my hands around her back to where my fingers are touching and my thumbs will be right about in that crease where her obliqes meets the abs. Im thinking maybe she is 22-23 in the waist, but your are right, she does have some fairly muscular legs (all those years of dancing and yoga).

There are so many body types I would say no. Keeping it under approximately 31 for disease reasons is general advice.
Calculator:
Body-Mass Index, Waist-to-Height Ratio and More...
My stats:
5'5''
115 (give or take by 2lbs depending on the day)
My waist changes a lot. It can be 22 on thin days and 24 on heavy days. (wooo pms)
Hips: 33-34
Bust: 34 (cup size not really relevant as it can vary by brand)

I'm 6'1", 140lbs 36-29-36 and wear a 6/8 or 28 in bottoms and M/L on top.
I wish my waist would get smaller, but I'd probably look anorexic if I lost any more weight (I'm already getting crap from people for my weight loss. ) The irony is that my sister and others always said I had a Barbie figure, but I think my boobies just gave off the illusion of having a small waist. The smallest I can recall being is 28" at 145lbs and that was back in the mid-90s.

Really, there is no "optimal" waist size for anyone (women or men). There are just too many variances in body types to have a standard/optimum. Of course, smaller the better because its an indicator of lowering chances of heart disease and diabetes, but there really isnt a "optimal" size.
As long as the waist/stomach is smaller than the hips and bust I think its alright. Its when the waist/stomach measurement is the same or larger is where it gets iffy.

26 - 28" is perfect.
22 - 23" is very thin.

It depends on the contours of the waist too. I have virtually no fat on my abs and it can measure anywhere from 25 to 28 depending on how much I've eaten. But I am more barrel shaped, so from the front my waist looks tiny whereas from the side it is expandable. At optimal physique I am about 33-25-35 and 113# (but I am also much taller). The waist just doesn't get any smaller. Maybe when I was 104# and totally unhealthy my waist might have been 24.
I can get my waist down to 22" with a corset but it looks totally gross! I think all those olden stories about women with waists of 18-22" are myths.
