Half-correct? It's my understanding that after your initial post a few months ago, you still haven't had a solid workout plan in place. That and you're the one asking for advice, because you don't 'know'.
It doesn't mean that I am completely uninformed, ya know.
That's why I don't run outside of a treadmill. I guess I have weak knees/bad ankles or horrible form while running. After 3 miles my knees/ankles are starting to hurt if I run on pavement. It may be the type of shoe I wear, so maybe I should go to a running store and have them watch how I run to get a recommendation. I hate running on treadmills too, so boring. So while the weather is nice, I prefer my mountain bike for cardio. During the winter I running on the treadmill as well as the rowing machine.
Do you think running on a smoother surface (asphalt street over a sidewalk) could be better or the same?
Asphalt is a little softer than concrete, sure. Still no where near as soft as a treadmill. Have you started running, on any surface, yet? If so, are you having any joint pain?

So I guess that is why you see walkers and joggers on the street rather than the sidewalk. The more you learn.
How about cycling? It's low impact on your knees. A good workout combo is cycling and swimming.
I just need to inflate my bikes tires and I should be good. All though I'll admit, I've never wrote the bike below 50 degrees. Any tips on what type of clothing I should wear?

I just wear my normal clothing. It all depends on how far you are going to go and the conditions. My work commute is about 5 mi each way. But I've ridden more than 20 mi on multiple occassions wearing cargo pants and a T-shirt.
If money is a problem you could look at cheaper running attire at various stores. If after a while you decide to really get into cycling then you might consider cycling specific clothing.

Just my thoughts.
Would it make a difference if I bike to my university with a backpack on? Winter clothing?
