Y'all, it's Brogain here. Over the past couple months I've embarked on a new fitness and nutritional journey, and I'm pleased to say that it has been almost a complete success. My starting weight was 275lbs (6'3"), and I'm down to a svelt 220(and still dropping). My original diet consisted mainly of protein, carbs, and fats. In order to change my body's composition, however, I knew that I needed to eliminate 1 of the 3, but which one? I chose protein, as I was also about to undertake a vegan lifestyle(my partner is also vegan). So, as challenging as that sounds(it wasn't that bad), I've done it!

As for the exercise portion, I've always been rather muscular, but covered in a massive layer of fat. This needed to go, so I went back to basics, handstands. I knew that if I could hold a handstand for several seconds, then I was well on my way to losing weight. In the beginning, I couldn't even do one, heck, I could barely touch the ground. Every day, I would go out back and prop myself up against the shed, upside down, for as long as I could. At first, my arms were on fire, mainly my elbows and wrists, followed by temporary numbness. This was the muscle fiber activating, I think, since it was an abnormal motion for me. After 3 weeks, I was able to hold for 3 minutes. After 6 weeks, I was able to do my first handstand unassisted, talk about awesome!. And now, at 220, I feel like an NFL superstar, strong and balanced, and not even close to where I want to be. Hell yes this feels good, and it's worth every drip of sweat.

You lost 55lbs in a couple of months? Very impressive!

Please explain what you mean by: "...I needed to eliminate 1 of the 3, but which one? I chose protein...". You mean to say that you've eaten no protein for the past 2+ months? Surely not?

Brogain here. Yes, I've actually reduced my protein intake to almost nothing. That was a key element in my weight loss as well as an energy boon. This isn't to say I didn't have any cheat meals, but I kept them to a regular minimum. Now if I consume a large amount of protein I tend to feel ill and fatigued. I guess I'm just adapting to this lifestyle.

Congratulations on your weight loss. Your diet doesn't sound like something I could do, I like more variety in my food choices, but good for you. Keep up the good work.

Clinton, do you mean almost no animal protein, or almost no protein of any sort? If the latter, can you quantify "almost no" protein?

Way to go, congrats on staying motivated! I like beans and nuts too much to go no protein & since I am not vegetarian or vegan I like other protein sources as well.

Clint here. Yes, I do mean the latter. I would say I take in less than 10 grams of protein per day, which is actually quite challenging. It took a period of adjusting, but my digestion has improved immensely, and I feel totally invigorated every single day. It's hard to believe, but that really worked for me.

I'm glad it's working for you, but please do be careful that some of the weight you're losing isn't lean muscle.

Good luck!

Clinton. I was told by my friend, who is also a nutritionist, that the no protein route was most definitely the way to go. He recommends this to all his clients, or so he says. He also clued me in on the handstand routine, which has really done wonders. We had a falling out years ago, but thankfully we're cool now and he's kindly answered any fitness related question I've had.
