So, my buddy got this big bag of whey protein. 6 pounds for like 40 or 45 bucks, 27g of protein. I get excited so I go to Costco, grab it and noticed "FROM THE MAKERS OF MUSCLE MILK". I instantly put the damn bag back and walk away. I can't really explain why, maybe I've read about Muscle Milk somewhere and can't remember it but I have a very negative viewpoint about this company.
I'm a big fan of Optimum / ON but there protein cost alot more. Yea I know, you get what you pay for. Spare me the crappy catchphrases. Do I have a random hatred of Muscle Milk or is it common?
i believe that cytosport quality is good. you shouldnt have to worry about it from that point of view. if i remember correctly, that bag you looked at is mostly whey concentrate with a smaller amount of isolate mixed in (i think 80/20 ratio but im not sure). whey concentrate is the cheaper and lower quality protein. its not bad, but it doesnt agree as well with my stomach as isolate so i avoid it. its also a different product from muscle milk, so its nutrition profile and taste are different.
I don't have much experience with protein powders, but I drink the CytoSport stuff you're talking about daily, as does my husband. It suits our purpose, but I was just telling my husband that we'll need to expand our horizons and check out some ON powders. My brother in law really likes the ON stuff from a digestive & metabolizing standpoint. (He was a buyer for Vitamin Shoppe briefly and is also a CF trainer getting ready to open some CF gyms.)
Muscletech has been the true LEADER of sports supplements.
thats kind of funny. they have been a leader in marketing and being made fun of.
the reality is that these big supplement companies are basically buying the raw ingredients all from the same places. they customize the blend a bit with flavors, fats, carbs, types of protein, etc. there is no magic in one company's protein that another one doesnt have.
i like NOW nutrition's unflavored whey isolate because:
1. price is less than most/any whey isolate from a big name company
2. i believe they have a quality product
3. by not adding flavor, i get a very high % of protein grams per grams in a serving. more protein for my money.
4. it doesnt make me gassy, which my wife truly appreciates
Muscle Milk by far is the best tasting protein powder I've ever bought. I've been using the Costco stuff for a couple years now and also find that it's one of the better values in protein powder. They did raise the price at my local Costco recently, but it's still reasonable and it lasts a long time.
I really don't care about taste. I care about if its a good product.
yeah, but its nice to have both if you can.
