It's all relative, like most things in life. My friend who was a high school football player bragged to me about how he used to run a mile in 10 minutes. To me that is too slow of pace for my warm up jog. But then he can bench press w/ one hand what I can't w/ two. Most people don't know the ABC's of training for speed. A sub 5 minute mile is tough, but the average person can do 5+change if they train right. But most people have no interest. After all, 5 min mile is 12mph, and your minivan can easily do 60 mph and more.

Impressive for a bunch of office guys deciding one day to have a one mile running contest.

4-6mins; that's Olympic caliber running.

I run 5 days a week for an hour, my time varies due to terrain, inclines, weather conditions etc! Over all at this stage, it's more about staying fit and health then speed.......

Why is everyone assuming these are just a bunch of guys in the office goofing around during lunch break? It sounds like they all work for the same company and are also runners which is something that draws them together for water cooler chats. Maybe they brought their gym clothes and decided to test their skills at a local track after work? Doesn't sound too far fetched to me. And I don't think 5:14 would win most NCAA events. I don't know anything about running, but my friend in HS was on the track team and I know he ran 4:58 at a track meet once. He said he wasn't good enough to compete in college, so he stopped running after senior year.

I used to be able to run a mile in a bit under 8 mins when I was younger, but now in my late 30's it's more like a 10min mile.

You guys might scoff at the times, but try running with little short legs, and an extra 5lbs bouncing around all over your chest, lol!

Bigger chested girls are NOT made for running, lol!

The slowest time was 7:11 by the oldest in the group -- a 38 year old. My time, as the second oldest at 36, was 6:54.

Is there any standard for what someone should be able to run at my age? I'm wondering if I should feel good about my time. I didn't start running until my late 20's. I was too into video games in high school

Coolcats, feel good, Varsity HS Soccer two miles under 12:00. PT Training in the US Army, not bad, you pass, Time: 13:18 Score: 100 and qualify with your run times. It's the other PT you need to be focused on, lol. Here's something that should add some fun, try walking with a 45lb ruck (back pack) over terrain or road for ten miles walking briskly, but DON'T RUN and time yourself, lol.

You'd be surprised. Good job dude, at 56 years old my times are pretty darn good.
