8 year old Chinese lifter Clean and Jerks 75 kilos - YouTube

Keep in mind China took home every gold except one for all the competitors they entered in the 2008 Olympics in weightlifting. They generally start them around 6 years old I believe.

Whether it's good or not in your situation I do not know. But often times, I think kids are smarter and tougher then we give them credit for.

It's not even safe for a lot of adults to be doing deadlifts. PERFECT form is required, otherwise you're setting yourself up for injury. I have a lot of friends who've gotten into CrossFit over the years and only one of them (out of 8-10) have not hurt their back doing deadlifts. Keep in mind that all these people were lifting under the direct supervision of the CrossFit monks who preach technique technique technique among other things.

Dangerous lift unless you have impeccable form and are very strong.

Or how about if you try to jerk too much weight?

It's asking for a hurt child, in my opinion. As much as you can try to teach a child that young "proper technique", it would be quite easy for the child to simply forget, become excited, distracted, whatever. Then the child ends up with a painful injury, and quite needlessly.

What is a child that young doing in a gym anyway?

I'd say, let the child play some sports first...

Most children don't 'powerlift' or lift weights, especially at that age... so you're really segregating his social skills from the rest of the children at his age...

That's because crossfit inhibits poor form (using deadlifts as a conditioning movements...and teaching improper form.. i.e., 8 hr seminar to teach all the 'crossfit movements')

so no, crossfit monks don't preach technique technique technique, because even they themselves, dont have perfect form.
