We put our son in swim lessons when he was 3 yrs old and spent a lot of time talking with parents while we watched our kids learn. It was amazing how many parents who couldn't swim!
I don't remember learning. It's like I always did it. My sibs and I were always on swim teams. Since I have limited vision, swimming was pretty much the only thing I could do.
I also have bad sinuses. My dad also had this. We used to go to Fort Lauderdale Beach and swim from Sunrise Boulevard to Las Olas or the other way around. A cold never lasted long - the salt water did its natural thing!
However, after Jaws, I couldn't swim like that anymore - and that's a real shame. I never never even thought about sharks before that.
I have a pool but it's too short. I still love it though.
28 and sort of. I could swim short distances but I never actually learned the proper techniques to go far. I'm in pretty good shape too but I'd definitely drown in the ocean.
I was a competitive swimmer and teach adults who can't swim. There are a lot of them, and the fear is debilitating. I applaud those who try to conquer their fear to learn to swim, it takes a lot of effort and is a humbling experience as an instructor.
I guess you won't ride a boat or jetski, huh? Or go to a big pool, a lake, or the ocean?
Not everyone finds those things fun. I certainly have less than no interest in a jetski. :P
24/yes, but I never learned the right techniques and can't even remember the last time I swam. It's a real effort to find a pool (haven't been in one in at least 6 years), the rivers around here aren't good to swim in, and I don't really feel the need to go out deeper than I can touch in the ocean - though I do a fair job in strong currents (and love the way I get a workout without even realizing it!). Growing up, there was always a pool in my neighborhood but had that not been the case, I probably would never have really learned to swim.
My ex was 28 and had no idea how to swim - he couldn't even float. I tried to help teach him but he couldn't even grasp the feeling of his body in water. It was just never a part of his childhood.
23/yo no
I took lessons as a kid but failed half way through because I had no confidence, I Have cerebral palsy in my legs so it made hard as a kid to learn ohysical activities, but I definitely want to learn because I love the water!
