Most people cannot even finish 3.1 miles let alone do it in 30 minutes. But don't waste too much time patting yourself on the back; now it's time (pun intended) to shoot for 25 mins. Try running some intervals, for example 1/2 mile repeats. Run 1/2 mile fast, then 1/4 mile slow, then 1/2 mile fast & so on. 25 minute pace is 8 minutes/mi or 4 minutes for a half-mile (about 805 meters).

I totally disagree. The OP is a novice runner. They should not be aiming on increasing their pace per mile but slowly increase their distance. RUnning 6 miles in one hour is the much better goal for a neophyte runner as opposed to running 8 minute miles. A faster pace will naturally come with better fitness. Suggesting a new runner start running faster than their comfy pace is pushing them towards injury.

Yes, you are probably right--thank you for the correction. It would be better to try to increase distance, unless for some reason OP is one of those people that doesn't want to go longer. Also it seems unlikely to me that going to 8 min/mile would risk injury, but then I don't claim expertise here.
OP here. I really appreciate all the support. Thank You!!!!
At this point, my goals are fairly modest. I prefer to increase the distance I run and eventually run a bit faster. Ideally I would like to work back up to the pace I ran at 20 years ago (I'm 51 now), which is 5 miles in about 45 minutes. We'll see. I've injured myself a few times in the past, so now I increase things very gradually to avoid hurting myself.
