Any activity that has benefits is best determined by individual taste. If you enjoy one over the other, pursue the one you enjoy.

The best exercise is one you enjoy doing.

There is no "best" fitness activity out there. If there was, everybody would be doing it, right? Fitness is a broad activity that is tailored for different individuals pursuing different goals. I bodybuild, so I would have a different regime than a powerlifter. I sometimes play soccer for fun, but since I bodybuild I can only play at the rec level as I don't have the endurance or build to be effective at anything above recreational play.

The golden rule for fitness is that what works for one person may not work for another. I could follow bodybuilder Jay Cutler's exact workout regime but I wouldn't come close to his build. It's ok to look at someone else's workout program for guidance and as a base, but it's important to build on that to your own demands.

Whatever you enjoy doing, and do regularly, is the best exercise.

I haven't played football since I was 16, and do OK nonetheless.

OP is crazy. There is no rhyme or reason to his post, he just "threw it out there". We can come back here in a year and see that he/she still only has 2 posts in history.

While I wont necessarily say there is a single "best all around" exercise, there are some things that are superior to others in a general sense, like running is better than walking for fat burning, or jumping rope is better than walking your dog in terms of fat burning, but there is no end all be all exercise.

What is best for ME and my personal goals, may not be best for the next person. But without a doubt, we can say that the person who goes for runs IS going to get in better shape, lose more weight, burn more calories, zap more fat than the person who walks. This is assuming that they have their diet in order.

Yeah pretty much, so keeping with his "throwing it out there" theme....I vote pullups. If you can do them, you are likely very fit.

I think swimming is one of the hardest workouts you can do. I do however think it takes a little bit of everything to get into top shape.

Swimming is known to be easier on the joints but harder on the lungs, which is a good thing.
