The gym is basically a personal training studio. Everyone is there doing the same work out of the day, but lifting weights according to their capabilities, and supervised by multiple trainers. It's very small quarters, the size of a basement, and it's crowded. There's an athlete, a children's and an adult program. All of us who were there on thursday night are very aware of it, and displeased, and it has become a snicker-point. There were comments made on Friday in reference to the incidence. Of course, it continued on Friday. I think some prefer to ignore it in hopes that it will stop. Maybe they are better than I at tuning it out. I talked to the trainer who works with her, and he just shrugged his shoulders, and said everyone has a different way of handling "things." He has no intention of complaining to management. I figure nothings going to change if we all tiptoe around it. I'm willing to go to management. I find it incredibly distracting (and no, I'm not jealous, hardly)....even just yelling at the top of her lungs would be distracting. As I said, it is very close quarters. And I don't want to listen to some chick having a public orgasm anywhere, especially at the gym!!
In all my years of working out, I've never heard anyone yell so loud, and so uncontrolled. Just wondering if this is common (hope not). I completely understand groaning when pushing a heavy weight, but this is totally ridiculous.

Well at least they're just coming out of her mouth.

There are "grunt free" gyms you can join. Otherwise, gyms equal grunting sounds. Never been to one yet where they have been silent. It comes with the territory.

I think this woman is doing this on purpose. It's a way for her to brag. I'd say that you find it annoying and well...disgusting. If she is intimidating, I'd tell some one on staff.
You have a right to work out without hearing orgasm sounds such as those and no I've never personally heard anyone do that but some women tennis players make similar sounds to what you describe.

Thank you! Finally someone who understands!!!!!
I think she is doing it on purpose also for attention. I don't think it's bragging though. I think she is thriving on the attention from the trainers. The newbies get a lot of attention & assistance from the trainers. She just started this and she's been attending for about 2 weeks. If you were a middle-aged, out of shape woman, in the gym for the first time, wouldn't you want some young man leaning over you, spoting you, yelling "drive it, drive it" constantly?
This is a kick ass gym. Seriously. There is no easy work out, and if they don't think you are lifting enough, they are on your case. They watch us like hawks. The owner is ex-NFL, HS coach, and warden at our local prison. He's a no excuse-type of guy. I have DOMS within 24 hours of every session. I learned all about ice baths/showers here, and do it weekly after leg day. We work out 4 days a week, and there is a saturday boot camp that is highly encouraged but not required (I've been once & went home to bed for the weekend ).
I totally get it that it's a hard ass work out. And she is in the very beginning stages. I've been there going on 3 months (had been working with a different trainer before joining, and did reformer Pilates for many years), and I was exhausted for most of that time. I've finally made it over that hump.
So for the person who suggested I wasn't working as hard as the moaner, go jump in a lake.

This isn't grunting. I'd be jumping for joy if it was just grunting.

Just listened to the 9 most ridiculous grunts in women's tennis , and the moaner at the gym doesn't sound like these professional female tennis players. Their grunts are too short. The moaner moans, continuously, loudly.

The ones making all kinds of loud noises are only doing it because they want people to stare.

A lot of people do annoying things in the gym. But, at the end of the day I'm squatting, deadlifting and bench pressing more than anyone else in the gym.

Some people are loud, some people are quiet, some like attention while others stay in the dark. Combined is what makes the world go around. Personally, i would not offended but i am sure that i would laugh. If its over the top, say something to her vs reporting her which is chicken $h1t.

And no headsets are allowed in the weight room during "personal training" time.
Is this "normal"? Surely, this isn't normal.....but, I don't want to get on someone's case if this is "normal."

Been reading all the posts about this "loud lady" who is working out at your gym. Has anyone talked to her yet? I see you have made an attempt and for your sake and hers I hope someone talks to her soon. There is nothing worse than being the butt of gym gossip. There could be a few solutions beyond talking to her. Talk with her trainer and explain how distracting this is; I am sure she could tone it down a little. Talk with her over coffee, drinks, whatever and befriend her. She may just be loud and can't help it and you won't know until you ask her. Last but not least, find a new gym but I am sure there will be at least one groaner there...just the way it is. In the meantime, help this lady to NOT be the object of everyone's conversation, kinda mean that no one can seem to catch up to her and let her know what is going on..I am especially surprised at her trainer?? Why can't he/she help out with this?
