I do "enjoy" reading your comments, but I see nothing here that would lead me to listen to you as the expert over my trainer, my physical therapist and my own professional training.
Cool! You pay for your trainer, you better get his worth....
I am a Mike Mentzer type fan with just a bit more volume. I guess sort of like Dinasour training. I have done it all high volume, low volume, powerlifting, and everything in between. The truth in my opinion is over tiime it all works if you stick with it and give it at least 5 years. Yes you need a good five years to look decent. I am a female and its took me 3 years just to get a foundations, 5 years to look muscled and then keep going. Now more then a week off and do it. THey all work its time and consistency.
I wonder why lifters have "chest day," "arm day," "leg day," "back day," etc.
I am admittedly a caveman when it comes to lifting, but I always worked the whole body every time I lifted (usually 3x/week, 2x/week when I was lifting ultra-heavy). Any insights?
Knowledgable lifters do not have a "chest/arm/leg day", a knowledgable lifter will always engage in compound movement and any thing else will be assistance exercises to support the main lifts.
I'm an Olympic style lifter, but I keep it pretty simple. My lifts are deads, front squats(cant do back squats due to poor shoulder mobility not allowing me to get my hands back far enough), cleans of various types, and bench press. I am a Crossfitter but I always try to do my lifting before I do the daily WOD.
I've got a meet tomorrow and afterwards I'm starting a 4 week intensification cycle (linear progression), followed by 4, 3 week cycles (Conjugate). Below, I've got Upper 1 (dynamic, speed day for the main move) as well as Lower 1 (same)... and Upper/Lower 2, which are more 'max effort' days. Same exercises for 4 weeks, with different sets/reps and weight...i.e., 5x8, 5x5, 5x3 (simple linear progression). This is 4 days a week.
My separate workout, is Olympic Lifting which is 4x a week also. Generally, 2 days are geared towards the Snatch and 2 days for the Clean and Jerk (Or just the clean). The Olympic workout is 530-7 (usually 20 minutes spent warming up). I will be doing short jogs/sprints on days off for recovery.

That is how I always saw things, but I was just trying to understand that way of thinking.
I am a weightlifter (free weights) and I train for BJJ.
When I first started lifting at 16, my motivation was BJ's as well.
On a serious note, I'm a powerlifter. Always have been. I respect what bodybuilders go through to look the way they do, but I've never been interested in brutal diets, rubbing oil all over my body, or wearing a G-string for a panel of male judges. Too gay for me.
I'd rather lift purely for strength. Building a big, impressive physique that attracts the chicks has just been a fringe benefit.
I used to powerlift during hs/college and got bulked up and hated it. I felt really uncomfortable, so I moved more towards lean muscle and figure now. My brother is a personal trainer at the University of Florida, so I had him write me up a workout plan.
Heading down to the garage to do a 5/3/1 snatch workout right now....
