Default overall gym style.

What is your training style when you are in the gym? By training style I Am not talking about a decription of your workout itself but rather your style as far as your behavior, your routine, your attire and your overall approach to your time in the gym. I will start with my own style. Over the years I have learned that I prefer to workout in the morning for two main reasons one of them is that I feel better and with more energy in the morning than in the evening and the other reason is that I don't like a crowded gym and in the evening it is horribly crowded at the gym I go to, I train pretty old school but I train alone I split my workout but I like to do the hardest part of my workout in the morning before going to work and then do the easier part after work at home. I like to eat a solid breakfast before my morning workout. When I am in the gym I consider my self pretty old school to some.extent with some qualities that are unique for me, I carry a gym bag with me to the gym but I leave it in the locker. I dont care for gloves or headbands. I use straps for heavy shrugs t bar row and bent over rows only. I only use a lifting belt for deadlifts and my last two sets of squats.
I don't have an mp3 player with music in my ears. I wear simple cheap clothes and shoes. I drink water from the water fountain I dont carry a gallon of water around the gym with me. I don't drop weights unless it is absolutely necessary. I carry a change of clothes in my gym bag so I can change before I go to work. I usually only carry 1 post workout supplement because I keep my other supplements stocked at work. I try my best to train Monday through Friday and keep the weekend free. That is about it for me and before I go I want to say that I 'm not saying any of this to insult or criticize anyone who does things different than I do I just want to see other people's styles.

Default Gym Stuff

I prefer morning workouts, too. I don't wear designer clothes to the gym either - usually I'll go in a wrinkled shirt and shorts, lol. No mp3, gallon jug, grunting or dropping weights either. I don't like to socialize during my workout(s), and will only speak to others when necessary. Free weights > Machines, compound exercises > isolation work, and I never rest for more than 90 secs between sets.

I'm not an angry jerk either. I just like to get it done, and get out the door.

I have seen this type of behavior many timessome guys go around misusing the equipment and kicking the adjustment lever on some machines and thenthe equipment has to be repaired.

This is all me, except I do carry a 2 liter of water around.

I workout at 530 am. I am doing home workouts right now, but I am going to switch up my routine in Sept and it's back to the gym.

Good thread OP!

Olympic gym: I lift, lift, lift, lift. No joking, talking or horseplay unless it's about technique. No music, ever.

Gym: No music. Converse all stars, fairly large shirts (not tight), short shorts when squatting, long shorts otherwise. Don't talk to anyone, just lift. Carry my own bottle. Belt up on deadlifts of 80% 1RM or higher (never used to until I injured back doing something unrelated).

Will be training at a new gym (powerlifting gym of liftinglarge.com)..

Get up at 0400 to be at the gym by 0430. I must have my music because the gym plays music that is better suited for a resort, water bottle and my own towel. My ankles and wrists are usually taped up. No cutesy pink clothes for me; I wear black pants and a black tanktop.

Rack, get it done, clean the bench, rerack, move on to the next exercise.

It is hard to explain but on some leg press machines there is a lever that adjusts the backrest angle and some guys go and kick it to adjust it instead of using their hands to do it and it is just the way they do it, with an attitude.

I prefer mornings for my workouts as well, but not too early, during the school year I'll go after I get the kids off to school. I never go to the gym without a plan, be it going for the cross-training group class or I go with my workout of the day written out or in my head, otherwise I can't focus. I always have a huge bottle/jug of water and my towel. I don't chat or interrupt my routine UNLESS I see someone who is struggling or needs help or has a question, then I always stop & help. Our gym has a wide variety of ages & ability levels, and especially in January, well you know how that is. I'm not going to let an 80-year-old lady struggle with a machine because I'm too "busy" with my routine. I try to be super-careful to wipe everything with the Clorox wipes and put every plate and adjustment back to the way I found it, dumbbells, bars, kettlebells exactly where they belong, etc. I will listen to music when I do cardio but never for weights/strength, as I hate having anything in my way/wires hanging for that. The gym is a bit of a distance from my house, so if someone does want to chat a bit with me, they know to wait until I'm done and off the gym floor to do that.
