I've often criticized crossfit, mostly to start the banter with hooligan.. partly because i don't agree with somethings, but also because I was being unfair.
Always unfair to criticize some elses workout.. everyone trains for something different. Now, I believe unless I am training someone, criticizing someones workout is a waste of time and unfair. No need to do it.. doesn't effect me any.
I know this has been the subject of numerous threads, but this myth/perception just will not die.
Take a look at this vid - whether you like or agree with CrossFit or not (I'm looking at you tommodonahue ) - these girls sling more weights than all the Treadmill Buffys at your local 24hr Fitness or whatever. They also look way better. Coincidence? Not hardly.
I like some of the crossfit exercises but overall I'm not a fan. To me weightlifting isn't a race.
we dont do weightlifting as a race. It's simply part of the workout, and even then it's always lighter weight, unless someone is a doing a strength based short metcon. Many programs incorporate light weight lifts for higher reps, not just CrossFit.
I think if you're the kind of person who would really get into something like CrossFit, then your chances of taking good care of yourself skyrocket.
It's not the CrossFit - it's the mentality.
For some people, that's true.
However, there are TONS of people who go to these "big box" gyms and just flounder, because they don't know what they should be doing and have no training plan. Having a plan and goals are key - that's much more built-in to a CrossFit style gym than a typical 24hr Fitness/Planet Fitness/Gold's/etc.
