When I began FORCING myself to get 7-8 hours of sleep rather than 5-6 hours, I lost not only weight, but FIVE INCHES around my waist - in about three months.

Honestly - the inches lost around my midsection were amazing - five in the waist, five in the bust, and three in the hips - and I only lost about 10 - 12 pounds in order to lose that many inches.

It had to have something to do with the excess cortisol.

In my experience, sleep is EXTREMELY important. The only mornings when I would wake up having suddenly lost 2-3 pounds after a stall, were the nights that I had 8+ hours of restful sleep.

They say you are more hungry if you don't get enough sleep, so you will eat more and not lose weight.

I've always heard it's important and believe it probably is. I'm an exception to the rule, though. As long as I work out and watch what I eat, I tend to lose weight whether I'm getting enough sleep or going through periods of major sleep deprivation (happens when you're a mom and college student unfortunately).
