I apologize if this isn't the right forum area to ask this question. I'm a male in my mid 30's with an average build and usually go to the gym to lift/run a few times a week. I also juice a few times a week and have tried to cut down on my sugar. I'm not in great shape but I'm in better shape than most of my friends.
This week coming up between Christmas and New Years is crazy busy here in Las Vegas and both of the casinos I work at have us working 5 for 6 days during the week. I work 3am to 11am at one casino and then 1pm to 9pm at the other casino. As a casino dealer you are usually on the game an hour and then you get a 20 minute break.
My overall question is what type of diet (Foods, drinks, snacks etc...) would you all recommend to give me the best endurance while working this crazy week? I usually drink a good amount of water, at least one class per break, but I try not to drink to much so I won't feel the overwhelming urge to pee while stuck on the game. When I don't have a lot of time at home to juice I try and drink at least one can of V8 a day to get some vegetables in my system. I figure V8 is better than nothing.
Anyone have some good recommendations for keeping my energy up during this crazy work week?
Have a good one my fellow CD peoples.
I would suggest drink some high-anti-ox juice such as pomegranate-cran or blueberry. Get the kind that says 100% juice to avoid hi-fructose corn syrup (HFCS). I drink a couple bottles of this stuff every week and it seems to ward off colds. If you're working 16 hrs a day in a casino you're no doubt getting a never ending stream of cold viruses trying to attack.
High protein. Buy two dozen eggs, hard boil them, just to have on hand for quick snacks, and breakfast or lunch.
You don't have time to cook, shop, or prep much when working that much, it is "grab and go", stick to things you like, and get some protien drinks drinks, protein bars for snacks. Muscle Milk is one of my favs, I used to drink one in the car, while going from one job, to the other.
Apples and bananas, yougurt. Cheese. Things you can just grab.
You have a schedule like nobody I ever heard of. I give you alot of credit to be able to hold that schdule. You have so little time to get proper sleep.
As for the diet this is my recommendation. Some of which has already been mentioned. Try to keep a good balance, protein, low fat, limited sugar. I wouldn't recommend over doing the caffeine either. I think with your schedule people would automatically think they need extra caffeine to stay awake. I think alot of caffein is very bad for the body. It will help to keep you awake, but at some point you will just crash. Caffeine is a false security for many people, that are over doing it with thier schedule in life.
So try some chicken or turkey breasts sandwiches. add some lettuce and tomato to the sandwich. Almonds since many nuts are a problem for you. Some apples, pears, bananas. The V8 juice that is a good idea. I do recommend that. Cut up some carrot sticks and maybe some low fat cheese. Put them in one of those plastic sandwich bags for a quick snack. I also agree with the Muscle Milk or even that Boost Protein drink for that added protein. Do keep drinking the water. Yes you have watch it on that end. With your type of job and having to get to the restroom. Then to much water would be a real problem. So sip it but keep drinking it when you can.
I hope this schedule isn't something you are going to have to do continuously. I would hate to see someone take on to much and then get sick or just completely burnt out. You have taken on a tremendous workload. So be careful. With your schedule it would be very easy to stray, and eat nothing but junk food. Overtime you would be a prime candidate for Diabetes. So eat as well as you can, and keep up with some exercise.
Its amazing you have time to exercise, but that exercise is extremely important so keep at it when you can.
I just reread your post. Seems like you are just doing this horrible schedule over the holiday periods. If so I'm glad since working those schedules is far to much.
You probably eat at the EDR on breaks, stay away from the heavy foods, and the desserts. I would stay with simple food, lighter meals. Salad, chicken, eggs, fruit. Stay away from pizza, pasta, heavy red meat.
Why what happens if you eat to many? I'm allergic to a lot of nuts but I can eat almonds so I usually keep a can of them.
For Pete's sake....don't eat nuts if you're allergic! Geesh! I have 8 Epi-Pens in various places because of my son's peanut/tree nut allergy.
Turkey, fresca, hard boiled-eggs, candy.
