I wasn't close to my height of 5'7 when I started my first period. It was not till my last year of high school (a couple months before turning 18) when they were measuring us for our graduation gown that I had grown an inch more, the last growth.

From what I've read, usually when a girl gets her first period, she either stops growing there or only grows 1-2 inches but I went up to 4 inches. My mother told me she stopped growing at age 13 (she's 5'4) and I have a female friend that haven't grown anything since 6th grade (she's been 4'9 since then). However, this is how it went for me and I didn't even exercise at all (sometimes I used to eat junk food too):

Age 11: Got my first period and was 5'3
Age 12: 5'4
Ages 13-15: 5'5
Ages 16-17: 5'6
Adult height: 5'7

I wonder how often does this happens: a girl still growing during her last year of high school or grows more than 2 inches after getting her first period?

Most of the girls in my family stopped growing at age 14. Some of the boys grew until age 21.

Yeah this is what happened to most of my female friends as well as the women in my family. They already reached their full heights between ages 12-15.
I guess my case is rare. I wasn't done yet at that age.

Generally you grow for a year or two after menarche, but it's not a hard rule. I'd say your growth pattern was atypical but not unheard of.

Myself, I grew rapidly between 14.5 and 16 and then more slowly for the next 3 years after that. But then, I didn't get my period until I was almost 17.

I heard that girls generally stop growing around age 16, although their biggest growth spurt is just before/around puberty.

I guess every girl grows differently or must of been genes since I was never into sports. I think those were my 2 growth spurts unlike most who only had 1 and then stopped growing or just grew an inch or 2.

1st one (starting at age 9 till my period): 4'9-5'3
Then came the second one afterwards; slower but 4 inches is a difference. All together that makes 10 inches.

Though at the time I kept seeing myself as the same height while others would see a difference.

Two inches is average but less or more would be normal. Four inches is probably pushing the maximum to be expected.

I guess it might have either been genetics playing a role or just the fact that I was never a skinny nor fat girl (just right in the middle).
