While I was still in college, I alternated between upper body weight training, jogging/cardio, and lower body training. Never would I be at the gym more than three times a week (jogging was done at the city park). I never got "strong", but that really wasn't my goal to begin with. I just wanted to be able to booze it up on the weekends and eat what I wanted to without getting fat. I never felt "bad" for missing a day. I was never obsessed with obtaining a perfect physique.
I'm alright nowadays with 5-6 hours a week in the gym. This may mean I'm not looking as hot, nor getting banged as constantly by my wife who doesn't find me quite as irresistable, as Capablanca, but it's the price I pay for not being as healthy, hot, sexy, or banging my own hot wife as constantly.
No my life doesn't in any way shape or form. Pretty much the opposite. I have to do a certain amount because my logical brain tells me it's necessary for my body to work properly, but I don't enjoy going to the gym or anything. If I loved an activity or sport it would be different, and totally understandable that I'd spend a lot of time doing it.
This is me, pretty much. I've never been athletic or competitive, and for me working out is like flossing--something I don't enjoy but do for health. I'm in my 30s, and I exercise to maintain weight and stave off heart disease and osteoporosis. I hate the gym, and I do a lot of things that the hard core gym rats on this forum call "pointless," like exercise DVDs and walking for probably 6 hours a week, tops.
I was probably at the gym close to 18 or 20 hours. I work, and go to the gym. I have no kids at home. What else should I do? I cut back a bit, when I hurt my knee skiing a few weeks ago.
In the summer I do other things. But winter...why not?
There are 168 hours In a week. If somebody wants to spend 12 hrs per week working out, then more power to them. Different strokes for different folks.
