Ooo, sounds like someone got up on the wrong side of the bed!
Wrist wraps give a lifter probably 10-25 lbs increase in a bench press. That's not a big difference. Me personally, they did nothing for me. A bench shirt will give a lifter 100+ pounds increase on their lift. Gloves are for someone wanting to protect their hands from callouses.

Every single arm-chair athlete wants to call every single record breaking lift 'impossible' or blame it on 'juicing', instead of recognizing, wow that is really great. I guess that's how the Wright Brothers felt...

You are correct. The shirt makes a big difference.

World record holder Scot Mendelson can bench 715lbs without bench shirt and 1,031lbs with bench shirt.

However much he lifted, it helps that he has those T-Rex arms. They barely reach above his head.

Powerlifting has raw and geared federation. Lifting geared is a completely different ballpark than lifting raw. Neither one is more difficult, it's just different. It's like comparing rugby to American football. Using equipment isn't "cheating", it's just a different sport.

You can't compare a 17 year old to the best bench presser in the world...

I swear, PLing and weight lifting are the only sports where people compare impressive feats to the most elite lifters and shrug them off because they aren't world records. A 17 year old benching 700 lbs in gear is still very impressive.

Who said I was attempting to compare the two lifters to each other?

My previous post simply shows that a shirt can increase a lifter's bench press by a significant amount.

Which is why I stated the following:

Quote:
You are correct. The shirt makes a big difference.
I then provided Scot Mendelson's lifting records as proof of how big a difference a shirt can make.

If this statement is not meant to trivialize his performance but is meant to be simply an observation, then I agree that he does have a lifter's build, which certainly contributes to his ability to heft a lot of iron.

Good point with the last sentence. Regardless of the juice question, this accomplishment is worth noting because of what it indicates about the kid's potential for future achievement.

I was very impressed by what he did, but I also was taken by his build. At the end of the video he raises his arms above his head in victory and his hands barely stick up past his head. Pretty much the perfect build for his sport.
