This was accomplished Saturday by 17-year-old Matt Poursoltani, a high school senior in Pilot Point, TX, a town just north of the DFW area. The reality is that people are always going to wonder about juicing with news like this, but the kid insists he's clean. If you're as clean as you claim to be, congratulations Matt, and keep up the hard work. In any case, it's a notable feat.

He's lying. No way he did that clean.

Just to be clear... he's using an assistance device called a "bench shirt." Those would not be permitted in so-called "raw" bench-press competitions. It's still a lot of weight, but without that shirt, it would not be nearly as high, and it cannot be compared to lifts that were done in the "raw" fashion.

I'd imagine his raw is between 400-500 though still pretty impressive.

Bench shirt or not, no way he is clean. It will take more than his word to prove otherwise. Remember a guy called Lance?

Am I the only one who doesn't get the bench shirt thing? It's cheating plain and simple. Might as well attach forklift cylinders to your arms and show everyone how you can bench press 2000 pounds. In the end it's the same concept...mechanical assistance above and beyond the power your own muscles can make. What's the point of bragging about that?

Supposedly they are for protection, but I think the real reason lies in the 40-50% improvement on one-rep max that explains their popularity.

Why is using a bench shirt any different than using gloves, or wrist supports?

And que the male inferiority complex! Kid is clean. Short arms, barrel chest. He only had to move that bar four of five inches.
