I came across this article about runners in my town. I find it totally disgusting. Just wondering how you handle this situation....you're out running, and you got to go. Do you pee on the fly, or do you stand behind a bush/tree/object? Have you ever sprayed anyone?
Next thing I know, urine is blowing off of his shorts on the left side, onto my left thigh, shirt and side of my face. I backed off my pace, did not say anything initially, as we were on a section of the trail with no one else around and I did not feel comfortable approaching him alone.

I think the article was made up and obviously by a woman.
Quote:
his arm was held in front of him as he continued to run.
Who is goiing to continue to run while they are taking a whiz? And how about?

lifted the side of his running short
Does anyone really do that?
I run on trails and have BPH, so there are occasions when I have to go. I have places along the trail where I go 20-30 feet or more off the trail. If I can't move that far off the trail, I am constantly looking both ways to make sure no one sees me. I don't need a cop on a bike busting me for public urination.
^^^ made up? I don't think so. Why would anyone need to do that? sensationalism? attract more newspaper sales? It's a small local newspaper and has always been small. Umm, this is california, crazy s&*t happens here all the time!!
Do a lot of hiking and an ex-trail runner with a very small bladder. I always go off the trail as far as I can unless I know for sure that I am in a lightly traveled area. Read the article and I have never, ever seen a guy do it on the fly while they continue to run. Have seen guys do it in a bicycle race, but never running.
Not a runner but I like to hike local trails. I too "have to go" sometimes. As I hike I keep a look for bushes, side canyons, etc that are out of the public eye. Tho you do need to check around first. Trails I frequent I know where I can go and not be seen.
As to the article I have never heard of that. Even in the city there are alleys with dumpsters, etc you can hide behind. Although as Villageidiot1 says watch out for the cops.
I'm a runner and I've never witnessed or heard of anyone doing anything this ridiculous. And this writer experienced it twice in a week? I find that hard to believe. Or I guess California really is the weirdest place on earth.
Step off the trail in an area that isn't exposed, and keep an eye out for rattlesnakes, javelina, coyote, abandoned mine shafts, etc. More or less inevitable that people aren't going to be able to wait for the restroom on a big trail system.
I can tell you that some die hard cyclists pee while cycling,. I think its weird. I stop and hide in the bushes.
